Diamonds possess the widest range of colours among all the precious stones. Only one in 10,000 diamonds has a Fancy colour. The more intense the colour of a diamond, the rarer and more expensive the stone becomes on the market.
The most common colours are brown (also known as Champagne) and yellow. Grey or orange diamonds are less common. The rarest of all diamond colours are red, blue, green and pink.

Diamonds possessing a clearly recognizable colour that also produces a certain long-distance effect are described by the term Fancy. To describe the intensity of the hue, the colour is preceded by the terms light, intense, deep or vivid.
The colour designation “Vivid” is the highest colour intensity a diamond can achieve – it is not possible for a stone to possess more colour! These stones are genuine rarities among diamonds, the king of precious stones.

Brown is the most common colour in Natural Fancy Coloured Diamonds. The colour palette of brown diamonds ranges from a delicate brown shade to a deep orangey, greyish or reddish brown.
In the 1980s, the Northwest Australian Argyle Mine introduced the now internationally recognized term "Champagne Diamonds" to refer to brown diamonds and designed its own champagne diamonds grading scale ranging in colour grades from C1 - C7. Champagne Diamonds have since become classics among the Fancies!
The Argyle Mine, expected to close this year, produces not only the most attractive Champagne Diamonds but also exceptional and rare pink diamonds. At our stand, you will have the opportunity to admire and purchase Australian Champagne Diamonds, some even with a certificate of origin.
